GameRanger: a new place to play Populous: The Beginning online

Hi all, just thought I'd let you know about a new multiplayer network I've created for playing Populous: The Beginning (and its demo) online called GameRanger.

Basically, GameRanger makes it quick and easy to play with your friends online.

It has full lobby support for over 500 different games and demos (including Populous, of course), without the hassles and headaches that usually happen with network connections (eg. routers & firewalls).

I'm really excited to be releasing it, and hope it helps boost the Populous community by allowing people to play that were unable to until now due to problems with opening ports, etc.

Devil Worlds update

Hi and sorry for not updating the site for a long-long time. The University make me busy, but that doesn't mean we are no longer going to do anything! No-no! We are just about to send in the Classic and Grass worlds for PopRe to check, after a little last finishing touch on every level, making sure the style, the bases and the players are all right. After that, we start to focus on the Cold Worlds, around the end of the year, we send in the Cold and Dirt worlds, and the Numeric Worlds (with a bonus map!) should be sent in during the winter.

How do you know when PopRe approved the maps and they are ready to play?
1. Watch PopRe's website, they should put a line about it at the top of their site.
2. Watch Populous Online, we will make available the download and post a news article as soon as it is out.
3. If you have not tried it yet, download and install Populous Downloader 6, a feature rich "expansion" for the MatchMaker, with many features the MM missing, including the LIVE Mappack Updater which should instantly install the Solar System of Devil Worlds when it becomes available.

Populous is 10 soon

I'm happy to announce that Populous: The Beginning is 10 years old soon. To celebrate this big event, an old player who's playing since 2000 is making a tournament. Anybody are welcome, so if you want to have fun, try your skills, and improve your strategy, feel free to join in! Read this topic on PopRe's forum for more info.

University is here!

Yes, it's true. I finally can study what I really wanted. But this has a cost: I can not work with the Site and the Projects as much as we did before, but don't worry, we will not drop the Solar System of Devil Worlds now. You will see it around mid-January if our timing is right, +- few weeks of PopRe checking. I'll try to bring you the latest news available, and while study, using the newly learnt things, I hope I can make the Site and Populous Downloader alot better in the future.

Website Upgrade

The team at Populous Online have decided to upgrade our rather out-of-date PHP Nuke backend system to a new one with more features, more content, increased sustainability and functionality.

Watch the site for upcoming updates! We should be ready for a beta launch sometime soon!

New menu for the Single Player Walkthroughs

We have created a new nice looking menu for the Single Player Walkthroughs. We are also planning to add video guide and Undiscovered Worlds soon, so check them out!

Populous 4??

I just surfed Youtube for Populous related videos, and I found THIS! It looks interesting to finally have a new, better and cooler Populous, but when I went to the website the video told me, I realized that this is just another fanmade project that has 90% chance to be dropped or become inactive and never complete. It seems that EA don't want to continue Populous, and even the fans give up - but I understand... EA still holds the copyright for the game, so you can not continue it... but EA should do, seeing as the game is still very popular after 10 years!

As we seen in the User Feedbacks, there is still has interest for Single Player walkthrougs, mostly for newcomers. So, I have written Single Player walkthrougs, a step-by-step guide how to pass each level. You can access it by clicking on Single Player in the Guides menu.

Happy Birthday Populous Online

It's good to see that Populous Online is now 4 years old. Yes, it's true. We have survived many server moves, downtimes, technical and other issues, but we survived and became a big site with many infos. So many newcomers heard from us that Populous is still available Online, and it also became the home of the Solar System of Devil Worlds and Populous Downloader. As looking around all other fansites, this is also the most updated one, and still the second oldest one. So, Have Fun Browsing the Site and Play Populous: The Beginning, and stay tuned in the 5th year as many things have planned!
